Signage designed with accessibility
and safety in mind

122 Baseline Road West
61-Unit, Multi-Residential Affordable Housing Development
Project Overview:
The Rapid Housing Initiative, a Government of Canada undertaking through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, led to the transfer of municipal surplus land to London’s Housing Development Corporation in 2018, fast tracking this 61-unit, non-profit housing complex under a design-build project delivery model.
INPS was contracted to fabricate, deliver, and install a comprehensive signage package for EllisDon’s affordable housing project, 122 Baseline Road, London, Ontario. The project included a range of custom interior and exterior signs, such as:
- Floor indicator levels
- Braille signage
- Room identification
- Room numbers
- Parking signs
- Pylon Sign
- Notice Signs
Challenge:
INPS was tasked with supplying and installing signage that met stringent fire safety regulations and accessibility standards. All components needed to be fully compliant with applicable fire codes and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), ensuring regulatory alignment from design through to final installation.
Solution:
INPS delivered signage systems designed with accessibility and safety in mind. Features included high-contrast lettering, tactile characters, and Grade 1 Braille, installed according to the Ontario Building Code and CSA B651 standards for mounting height and clear floor space.
To meet fire code requirements, all materials were selected and tested in accordance with CAN/ULC-S102, ensuring compliance with specified flame spread and smoke development indices.
