Ronald Schmeichel Building

Western Entrepreneurship & Innovation Building

Project Overview:
The Western Entrepreneurship & Innovation Building was designed to be a hub where collaborative and entrepreneurial ideas can take root and thrive. It serves as a space for students, faculty, and community members to invent, build, grow, and share new business concepts.

Key architectural and sustainability features include:

  • Geothermal heating and cooling – for energy efficiency
  • Green roof – to reduce environmental impact
  • Triple-glazed windows – for superior insulation
  • Abundant natural light – through extensive use of windows
  • Flexible spaces – including maker spaces, co-working areas, and a welcoming common lobby
  • Courtyard connection – opening into a great hall and event spaces, encouraging interaction and collaboration

Project Schedule: Planning & Construction: 2021 – 2024

Project Location:
The building is situated along Western Road, between Weldon Library and the Law Building. Construction activity required careful coordination to minimize disruptions to walkways, roadways, parking lots, entrances, and loading areas in this high-traffic academic zone.
