Government of Canada’s Rapid House Initiative (RHI)

fabricated, delivered, and installed

Project Overview:
The construction of the 345 Sylvan Street apartment complex was a pivotal project under the Government of Canada’s Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI), aimed at quickly providing permanent affordable housing for those in need. Managed by EllisDon, this development was offering 42 units of comfortable living space designed to support vulnerable populations.

INPS was contracted to fabricate, deliver, and install a comprehensive signage package for EllisDon’s affordable housing project, 345 Sylvan Street, London, Ontario. The project included a range of custom interior and exterior signs, such as:

  •  Floor indicator levels
  • Braille signage
  • Room identification
  • Room numbers
  • Parking signs
  • Pylon Sign
  • Notice Signs

Challenge:
All signage supplied and installed by INPS was engineered and fabricated in compliance with applicable fire safety codes and AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) standards, ensuring full regulatory adherence throughout the manufacturing and installation phases.

Solution:
Signage incorporated high-contrast text, tactile characters, and Grade 1 Braille, and adhered to mounting height and clear floor space requirements as outlined in the Ontario Building Code and CSA B651: Accessible Design for the Built Environment.

Fire safety compliance was achieved through the use of materials tested to CAN/ULC-S102 standards, meeting flame spread and smoke development index thresholds.
